Police Switchboxes – Features and Functions of Police Switchboxes
If you are a law enforcement officer and you are on patrol, you know the importance of having a good switchbox. As a police officer, you have to control communications equipment, sirens, and warning lights among other things. When you are responding to an emergency call, you do not have time to look for individual power supplies with outlets that may be scattered about inside your vehicle. There are police switchboxes that can help you manage warning lights and other equipment. Some higher end switchboxes allow you to program the box so that there is one master switch that will turn on multiple pieces of equipment.
You can use the more traditional metal switchbox which can take up more space. Or, there are new police switchboxes that are compact and can still provide you with the ability to control your gunlocks and warning lights. Some brands of switchboxes fit specific types of consoles, so if you are looking for a switchbox to fit into your console, check with the manufacturer of the switchbox to make sure it will fit. Other types of switchboxes will fit anywhere and are not designed for a specific brand of console.
One important feature to look for in a switchbox is the programmable master switch. This feature makes it easy for you to flip one switch that will instantly turn on other devices. When you are about to go apprehend a suspect who suddenly flees, you need to be able to flip one switch to activate the warning siren, warning lights, and video camera. You can also use a switchbox to control your gunlock timer. For example, you could program the warning beacon to initially flash in a certain pattern, and then include that when you are programming the master switch.
Switchboxes should have externally exposed fuses. The reason why this is a good idea is so that you can easily diagnose the switchbox whenever there is a problem. Otherwise, if the fuses are enclosed in the switchbox and you are trying to figure out which fuse is burnt out, you will have to open the entire switchbox in order to replace one fuse. If you are using an old police switchbox, then you should consider buying a new one to take advantage of the advance in technology with switchboxes. New switchboxes have LED lighting in the background of the box which will change when the switch is activated.
