Rear View Cameras – Using Rear View Cameras to Stay Safe

When a tractor-trailer is backing up, the driver does not have a good view of what is in the space behind him.  He often relies upon mirrors to guide him.  But mirrors only provide part of the view behind the vehicle which is not accurate.  If a tractor-trailer or other large commercial vehicle has a collision, it often results in thousands of dollars of damage.  Rearview cameras can reduce the likelihood that a collision will occur.  These cameras can be controlled by the driver and will provide a full view of the space behind the large commercial vehicle.

Some rear view cameras are quite complex and include a whole system that can be programmed.  For example, if you would like the cameras to come on whenever you turn on your backup lights and turn signals, then you can program the cameras to do that automatically.  Or, you can switch the cameras on manually.  Some cameras come with color display screens that will give you a high resolution display so you can clearly see what is behind your vehicle or to the side of your vehicle.

If you are worried about seeing at night, the rear view cameras manufactured today come with infrared lights that will provide light when it’s dark outside.  Some camera systems even come with speakers so that you can hear what is going on around your vehicle.  This can be very helpful in crowded parking lots where there may be children around.  There are some cameras that can be remote controlled.  When looking for a camera system, you want to be sure that the wires can withstand extreme climates and wind. The camera systems will be connected to the exterior of the truck and will be subject to the elements while moving at high rates of speed.

The monitors for rear view cameras should be able to be mounted in any space inside of the large commercial vehicle.  It is best to look for a camera system that has monitors that can be adjusted to any viewing angle.  A good camera system will include an aircraft grade wiring system that will be able to stand up to all of the extreme vibration.  The cameras should be enclosed in a case that will not corrode.  The mounting brackets for the cameras should also have a protective coating so that the brackets will not break down and rust over time.   Use of cameras can reduce accidents and help drivers drive safely.
